DUSA took a moment to celebrate having registered 100,000 Dominican-Americans to vote in RI and NY- a historic accomplishment in US history. A well-attended cocktail reception was held at Providence’s Marriott Hotel, where guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as they listened to the musical interpretations of Johnny Keys Trio. Guests included an array of elected officials, including Congressman David Cicciline, Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza. Governor Gina Raimundo and Senator Jack Reed both sent their regrets accompanied with certificates congratulating the DUSA Team for their historic accomplishment.

Congressman Cicilline presented the DUSA field Team with individual certificates in recognition of their hard work. One DUSA Canvasser commented, “I have never been in a room with all these important elected officials. It was very exciting. Working with DUSA has opened so many doors for me. I really appreciate knowing that if we work hard to get our community to vote and participate, anything’s possible.”

Secretary of State Gorbea also offered congratulations in her address, commenting “This is a remarkable milestone for Dominicanos USA. I applaud their efforts to engage more Rhode Islanders in the civic process.”

The evening proved to be lots of of fun where much was said not only about DUSA’s recent accomplishments but also about the hard work to come as DUSA prepares for the 2016 elections. We look forward to celebrating the next 100,000 registrants!
