{"id":18781,"date":"2015-06-25T16:48:34","date_gmt":"2015-06-25T20:48:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dusa.wpengine.com\/?p=440"},"modified":"2015-06-25T16:48:34","modified_gmt":"2015-06-25T20:48:34","slug":"dominicanos-usa-unveils-accomplishments-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanosusa.org\/es\/dominicanos-usa-unveils-accomplishments-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Dominicanos USA\u00a0unveils\u00a01st\u00a0year accomplishments,\u00a0and\u00a0results of ground-breaking first-of-its-kind research\u00a0on the political perceptions and attitudes of Dominican-Americans\u00a0in New York, Rhode Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/dusa.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DUSA-Report-Latino-Decisions.pdf\">Download DUSA Report -Dominican-American political perceptions and attitudes<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>New York City &#8211;\u00a0Following a successful first year as\u00a0the\u00a0nation\u2019s first and only\u00a0voter registration, mobilization, and education organization geared towards Dominican American voters, Dominicanos USA (DUSA)\u00a0on Thursday\u00a0revealed\u00a0it had registered more than 75,000 Dominican Americans in their first year\u00a0of\u00a0voter registration\u00a0efforts, tripling the number of registrants since the organization\u2019s launch last year.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nDUSA also unveiled the findings of\u00a0a groundbreaking\u00a0political\u00a0research\u00a0project\u00a0and focus groups on Dominican-American political perceptions and attitudes.\u00a0The poll was conducted in partnership with Latino Decisions, a top Latino political opinion and research firm. The top findings include:<br \/>\n1)\u00a0The most important issues to Dominican American voters and potential voters are\u00a0jobs and the economy (29%), school reform and improvement\u00a0(23%), and\u00a0housing affordability\u00a0(20%). Additionally, Healthcare\u00a0(7%), and Immigration\u00a0(13%)\u00a0were also issues of concern. Priority issues also varied depending on specific geographic area.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0Many of those surveyed believe there are considerable barriers to participation that keep them from fully integrating into civic life and that more advocacy would help in that regard. \u00a091% of registered voters believe that more local Dominican-focused civic advocacy groups that help raise the voice of Dominican Americans are needed.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 News consumption attitudes found that the majority (70%) of\u00a0Dominican\u00a0Americans surveyed, even those that had assimilated, preferred Spanish-language and bilingual news\u00a0outlets to only English language outlets.
